To evaluate the achievement of our students and the effectiveness of our instruction, Humble Christian School uses the Iowa Achievement Test. We test students in kindergarten through 11th grade. This is a norm-referenced test, which means a student’s performance is compared with students in the same grade who took the test from across the nation. Our students compare very favorably and score well above average as grade level groups. This means that our instruction is very effective. Scores are reported as National Percentiles. If a child has a national percentile score in English/Language Arts of 62, that means that they performed better than 62 percent of students who took the test nationwide. If you see a student or group that is in the 50th percentile, that means that they are right in the middle of the national group. To assess how our school performs, we average the scores of all our students. We have very high expectations.
Our goal every year is for our school-wide average and for every one of our grade level averages to be higher than the 50th percentile. The average National Percentile score for our school for all grades in English/Language Arts was 74, for math 60, and for all tests 66.
These numbers show that school-wide our student performance is is excellent.
